Power boats - especially the lovely vintage wooden boats - hold a special place in the history of Lake Tahoe.
TYC continues to celebrate its power boating heritage with many summer events, including the Commodore's Cruise, Over-the-Bottom rallies and of course, the world-famous Wooden Boat Week and Concours d'Elegance.
TYC's traditional "Over-the-Bottom" rallies date back to the early 20s on Lake Tahoe. While early power boat regattas were purely a test of speed, today participants don’t have to break any speed records; rather they navigate a preset course at a specified speed, and a "poker rally" is thrown in for added suspense. The boat completing the course in a time closest to the "mark time" set prior to the event is the winner.
Over-the-Bottom events are held on Saturday mornings throughout the Summer season, with five events scheduled. These events typically start promptly at 9 a.m. when the first registered boat crosses the starting line. Additional boats will follow at one minute intervals. Please check the TYC on-line calendar for current OTB dates.
