LODGING
There are several
lodging options in the area, from hotels to houses to campgrounds.
Many of the ski areas have great specials on lodging during the
summer months. Campgrounds, houses and hotels are busy at the lake
around the summer months, so book early. Here are some phone numbers
and web sites to visit:
Camping
- www.reserveusa.com
877-444-6777. This company books all of the Forest Service campgrounds.
The most popular one is William Kent campground just across the
street from Sunnyside Resort. This campground has accommodations
for RV’s. See a map of these campgrounds.
800-444-7275. This is where you go to book the California State
park campgrounds. The most popular one would be the Tahoe SRA
which is located in Tahoe City just past the Safeway building.
(530) 583-3796 This is the number for the Tahoe City PUD. They
manage a campground right at the Tahoe City boat ramp. It is $15
per night and available on a first come first serve basis. Call
them for more info.
Hotels/Houses
etc.
888-434-1262 This is North Lake Tahoe’s resort association
and Central Reservations.
This web site has a lot of Tahoe listings on it for houses being
offered by owner. Check it out.
LAUNCHING
There are several
places around the lake to put in your boat. These are the most convenient
facilities for those boating and racing in the Tahoe City area.
Launch
Ramps
- TCPUD
Launch Ramp
There are two main launch ramps in the immediate area. The Tahoe
City PUD launch ramp is located side of Tahoe City to the East.
Go about two miles past Tahoe City on Hwy 28. Take a right at
the first Lake Forest Rd. Your first right takes you toward the
US Coast Guard station as well as the PUD launch ramp. You can
get more information here: www.tahoecitypud.com/parksrec/fields.shtml#2
(530) 583-3796. This ramp has had low water for the past few years,
so call ahead. Boats like the Melges 24 can usually launch here,
but will not want to put their rudder on or keel all the way down
until they have motored to deep enough water. Put the keel down
a little bit to keep the boat tracking. Launching here is free,
but parking your car has a daily fee (around $10). You can leave
a trailer with a car, but not on its own.
- Obexer’s
Ramp
About 7 miles South of Tahoe city on highway 89, Obexer's Marina
has a launch ramp. This ramp has more water, but is farther away
to get back to Tahoe City for racing. The fee here is around $15
in and $5 out. Homewood Mountain Resort (ski area across the street)
has limited space for trailer parking in the summer; call for
arrangements at 525-2992. Otherwise, there is no place to park
a trailer except up on the side of the road in a few places. Obexer's
Ramp phone: 530-525-7962.
- Marina
Launching
The
following marinas all have launch facilities by either travel
lift or fork lift:
- Tahoe
City Marina, in Tahoe City: 530-583-1039.
Sunnyside Marina, 1 mile south of Tahoe City
(shallow): 530-583-7201
Homewood High and Dry, 7 miles south of TC:
530-525-5966
Obexer’s Marina, 7 miles south of TC
(check depth): 530-525-7962
Sierra Boat Co., 5 miles east of TC (check
depth): 530-546-2551
Call all of these places ahead of time to check on prices
and availability for your boat.
MOORING
Mooring or docking
guest boats is the biggest challenge that the TYC faces in planning
events. The marina in front of the clubhouse is owned by individual
condominium slip owners. We are not allowed to tie off on dock ends
etc. There are places at the outside bulkhead to temporarily tie
up, but nothing overnight.
The TYC has
5 moorings in front of the marina for its memberships use on
a first come first serve basis. Members and guests can contact
the club for day use and get a ride to and from the mooring
from the marina operator at the gas dock.Overnight mooring is
not permitted unless prior arrangements are made with the management.
For large events with out of town boats, we will make the moorings
available overnight on a first come first serve basis. Contact
TYC clubhouse at 530-581-4700; Jim Mullen at lmullen52@hotmail.com (Trans
Tahoe racers); or Dan
Hauserman at 530-583-9111 (Melges PCC racers).
We will be
using other vacant moorings in the area for large events. Rides
to and from the moorings will be available during the event by
TYC staff. Contact the clubhouse @ 530-581-4700.
- The
Tahoe Yacht Club Clubhouse. 700 North Lake Blvd, Tahoe
City 530-581-4700
The TYC clubhouse is open in the summer months daily at 12:00.
There is a full bar, ice machine, rest rooms and seating/viewing
areas as well as retail sales. High speed wireless access is available
at all times free of charge. Food can be ordered from local restaurants
and served in the club as well as brought from other locations.
The club does not have a kitchen, so any food provided on site
comes from local restaurants, caterer, or pot luck/bring your own.

Lunch, Dinner and Groceries

several restaurants, bars and delis within a short walk of the
clubhouse. Safeway is just down the street to the east.

of some kind. Most of them do not stock sailboat parts. The best
place to get sailboat parts is from Tahoe Sailing Supply, which
currently is operated out of the owner's garage in Alpine Peaks.
