Over-the-Bottom Regattas Promote Fun and Camaraderie

TYC's infamous "Over-the-Bottom" rallies date back to the early 20s on Lake Tahoe. While early power boat regattas were purely a test of speed, today participants don’t have to break any speed records; rather they navigate a preset course at a specified speed, and a "poker rally" is thrown in for added suspense.

Over-the-Bottom events are held on Saturday mornings throughout the Summer season. This year’s events will start promptly at 9 a.m. when the first registered boat crosses the starting line. Additional boats will follow at two minute intervals. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. in order to register and obtain your starting card and instructions for the event.

• Launch Party: Friday, June 22, 5:30 pm, TYC clubhouse
• Regatta #1: Saturday, June 23, off the TYC clubhouse

Participants are given a prescribed course and very specific instructions to follow, including direction, speed, and timing. At each stop, the captain of the boat picks up a poker card, which he or she turns in at the finish. The team that has followed the directions carefully and has a winning hand will take the trophy.

Captains, crew and other interested parties are encouraged to attend the O-T-B Series “Launch” Party on Friday, June 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the TYC Clubhouse. Participants are encouraged to join in every event in order to compete for the overall championship but are welcome to join individual events as available.

The cost to participate in the O-T-B series is $110 for the five-event series subscription or $30 per individual event. Contestants registering for the series will receive two tickets for the Captain and First Mate to attend the Victory Celebration Party immediately following the final O-T-B on August 25. Additional Victory Celebration Party tickets for crew members and those attending individual events may be purchased at TYC, price TBA.
