l Wednesday night sailboat racing is nationally known for its low key "fun" racing, most often dubbed the "Beer Can Series". The Tahoe Yacht Club has found that busy weekend schedules as well as consistent evening breezes produces the highest number of boats for this weekly "hump-day" event. The 2011 season of racing is broken into two series, Spring and Summer. The spring series includes 7 nights of racing, and begins on June 1, 2011, ending on July 13, 2011. The summer series also includes 7 nights of racing, and begins on July 18 and ends on August 31. The August 31 event will be followed by the Beer Can Ball, an awards party for the series. Post race get-togethers at the club are always a laugh as the events of the evening are re-animated.
For those of you interested in crewing on a boat, or recruiting crew to be on your boat, there are usually two Crew Parties during the summer season. Anybody interested in sailing is invited to come to the TYC clubhouse as a guest and find out more about our sailing events. The club continues to make a true commitment to the boats of yesteryear that have a tough time competing head to head with the sport boats of the new millennium. There are three separate PHRF divisions, including one for boats that choose not to fly spinnakers. See the Sailing Instructions page for more information on classes; BC NOR. There are season awards for all divisions. In an attempt to further level the playing field, the slower classes of boats will start ahead of the faster classes. In addition, every attempt will be made to get all of the boats back to the dock around the same time. Wednesday night racing in Tahoe is plenty of fun, but don’t let the traditional attitude fool you; these races provide great competition as well!
